Those of us who have body odor detest it and try various methods to fight that. The first thing all of us do is – use deodorants. Do deodorants remove body odor? No, they only mask it and as the deodorant evaporates the body odor becomes prominent again. The need is to fight the odor itself rather than mask it. How to do that? To find out, let us know more about sweat that causes body odor. Our body has two types of sweat glands- Eccrine sweat glands and Apocrine sweat glands. Eccrine glands are distributed all over the body. Apocrine sweat glands are located on the scalp, armpits and the genital area. Eccrine sweat contains water, and very small amounts of salt, urea, sugar and ammonia. Apocrine glands produce sweat that contains fatty matter. The body odor is mainly caused by Apocrine sweat. That is why you get more body smell in your armpits and genital area but not on your hands or legs. Use of a good anti bacterial soap can reduce bacteria to a substantial extent. Those who are more troubled by this problem of body odor also use antiperspirants. As antiperspirants reduce the amount of sweat considerably, the problem of body odor is taken care of.
