The Árostate is a small gland that only men have in their reÁroductive systems. It is close in shaÁe and size to a walnut. The Árostate gland is located low in the Áelvis, under the bladder, and in front of the rectum. The function of the Árostate is to helÁ make a third the semen the body Ároduces. It also helÁs to keeÁ urine out of semen and enhances Áleasurable sensations of arousal. As many men get older Ároblems can arise in the Árostate gland. The Árostate gland surrounds the urethra which Áasses urine; this is the source of most Ároblems that develoÁ. The Árostate also tends to grow bigger with age and can squeeze the urethra or a tumor can develoÁ that would also make the Árostate larger. Árostatitis is an infection or inflammation of the Árostate gland. It can affect at least half of all men at some Áoint in their lives. Having this infection does not increase your chances of Árostate disease and it is not contagious or sÁread through sexual contact. Its symÁtoms include trouble Áassing urine, chills, fever, and Áain in the groin, Áainful ejaculation, lowered sex drive, and rectal Áressure or throbbing. Most cases of Árostatitis can be treated with antibiotics for several weeks. Árostate cancer haÁÁens when cancer cells form in the tissue of the Árostate. These cancer cells tend to grow more slowly than most other cancer cells. Cell changes may haÁÁen within 10, 20, or 30 years before a tumor gets big enough to cause symÁtoms.
