Depression can hit anyone at anytime. If you want to be tuned into a loved one that you feel may be suffering from depression, be sure to keep an eye out for some or all of these symptoms. 1. They seem to be suffering from mood swings. Though we can all suffer from mood swings at certain times, this is a different kind. Mood swings, and sometimes rather dramatic ones, are often representative of depression. It’s important to keep tuned into this behavior as it can be indicative for other things, but this is usually a good indication of depression and should be monitored. 2. They are eating far more or less than usual. A change in eating habits is often associated with depression. Some people tend to eat more when they are depressed, and some people don’t eat much at all. As you know the typical behaviors of your loved one, keep tuned into any changes in their eating habits as this can be a good indicator that something is amiss. 3. They sleep a lot. Many people deal with depression or anything difficult in life by sleeping. Therefore those who tend to sleep a lot may very well be suffering from depression, so it’s important to note any big changes in the person’s sleeping habits. Often they may escape everyday life by sleeping through it. 4. They have a quick temper or are easy to anger. Though some people just happen to have a quick temper, this is something to be aware of. If the person can’t seem to cope with the simplest thing such as bad traffic, this may be something to be aware of. This is particularly important if coupled with some of the other symptoms. 5. They seem withdrawn. If they seem like they are in a world all their own and don’t seem to be all too interested in everyday life, then this can all be an indicator of depression. If they seem like they just don’t care or that they only want to be left alone, this is particularly important to note. 6. They don’t seem to be too interested in everyday life or activities. The very activities and things that once interested your loved one are no longer of interest. They seem as if they just don’t care about their social life or their hobbies, and in some instances their job or their family. This can be a dangerous one so keep an eye out for it. 7. They just don’t seem like themselves. If they start out by just not seeming like themselves, then it’s important to find out what’s going on. It could have been triggered by some life event, but you as a loved one can ask early on what the issue is. This may help to avoid the onset of some of the other symptoms. None of us want to see our loved ones suffer from depression. These signs and symptoms may be early indicators, and depression may be somewhat preventable if you can keep tuned into them. M.
